Inspiration
Something that we as students wanted was a place where we could exchange used goods, like textbooks or furniture--saving money and reducing waste. To foster this, we were inspired to build the Poly Exchange marketplace where these kinds of transactions could be carried out.
What it does
Poly Exchange allows users to register with our site, and create listings to sell their items or services. Then, anyone can visit the website and explore these listings, contacting the sellers for further communication.
How we built it
Poly Exchange is built with HTML5 and CSS for the frontend, and Flask via Python for the backend.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a lot of challenges keeping our styling consistent and finding our aesthetic. We also ran into issues regarding the backend, where it was difficult keeping track of users, their listings, and allowing our listing page to dynamically display them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of our final, polished site. It uses the Flask framework which we did not have much previous experience with, and allows the site to really shine in all aspects not just including looks.
What we learned
Using the Flask framework, CSS styling on a multipage website, proper practice regarding web structuring.
What's next for Poly Exchange
We want to reach out to students to get the word out about our website. By talking to local businesses, we can accelerate our growth and use in the community.
