Inspiration

Because of the recent election, people are more on their toes on what is going on in politics. We wanted to make it easy to find our own congressional representative and contact them to give our opinion on current bills.

Politrack was created during HackPoly, a 24hr hackathon hosted by Cal Poly Pomona.

What it does

The user can put in their zip code or press a button of their current location to find their local representative. The app will list out the representatives with links to call or email them.

How we built it

We built the app using Android Studio and the sunlightlabs API.

Challenges we ran into

None of us had experience in Android and had to learn it in a few hours. The image for the current location button wasn't working, so we had to make the image the background of the button instead.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning Android and API rest calls in a short amount of time. Completing the project during our first hackathon.

What we learned

How to divide tasks, android development, and the hackathon experience.

What's next for PoliTrack

We hope to polish the UI for PoliTrack and also be able to pull up Bills that will affect the user's location.
