Inspiration

Contemporary political events reinforced our notion that people have the right to know. Facilitating their rationality comes to the fore, particularly when the media’s bias can have an impact. By centralizing relevant information, and providing a focused perspective, we aim to enhance the public’s awareness on what’s actually happening around them.

What it does

PolitiQuack is a multifaceted interface that seeks to concentrate relevant, reliable data regarding the upcoming US 2020 Presidential Election. The features offered include a Fake News Detector, unique partisan news and updates, FAQs and voter tips, as well as a customized state-wise representative contact map.

Challenges I ran into

Deploying the Machine Code algorithm to work alongside the front-end JavaScript and HTML base proved to be challenging for our team, since we were all relatively new to integrating both the front and back ends of a program. Additionally, our Machine Code model itself would require a significantly longer training time in order to display sufficient accuracy in the Fake News Detector.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of, What I learned

Working on both the frontend and backend, the four of us were exposed to a range of different skill sets and tools while working to realize our imagined model. The opportunity to learn skills that weren’t necessarily in our skill sets from our peers and work toward creating a functional product gave us a taste of working professionally in team-based project environments.

What's next for PolitiQuack

Solidifying the Machine Code algorithm by continuing to train the algorithm to recognize real and fake news! We plan to keep the site updated and active until the elections!
