Inspiration

India operates hundreds of government schemes with significant annual funding, yet millions of citizens remain unaware or unable to access the benefits they qualify for due to fragmented information, complex application processes, and language barriers. Inspired by this gap, PolicyPal aims to simplify scheme discovery and access using AI, making government benefits more reachable for everyone.

What it does

PolicyPal will be an AI-powered chatbot accessible via WhatsApp and web, providing personalized recommendations of government schemes based on user details. It will understand queries in multiple Indian languages, extract eligibility information, and guide users through application processes, reducing paperwork and confusion.

How we plan to build it

Aggregate and preprocess scheme data from open government APIs and portals.
Use open-source Hugging Face transformer models to build multilingual natural language understanding.
Develop backend services using Python and FastAPI with a lightweight SQLite database.
Integrate WhatsApp Business API sandbox for communication, supported by free-tier cloud hosting (Railway/Render).
Build eligibility matching algorithms combining rule-based checks with AI reasoning.
Design simple user interfaces compatible with low-end devices.
