🚀 PolicyGenie – Built for the Internet’s Legal Future

PolicyGenie is an AI-powered legal policy generation platform that helps developers, creators, and startups generate compliant Privacy Policies, Terms & Conditions, Cookie Policies, and more — in under 60 seconds.

🎯 Why I Built It

As a solo indie developer, I’ve built websites, SaaS tools, apps, and even browser extensions — and every time I launched a new project, I ran into the same roadblock: legal compliance. Creating Privacy Policies, Terms of Service, Cookie Disclaimers, and more often felt overwhelming, expensive, or straight-up confusing.

I’ve spent hours Googling templates, paid for documents that didn’t apply to my use case, and once spent over $100 just to get a basic Privacy Policy for a landing page.

That’s when the idea for PolicyGenie was born.

💡 Inspiration

PolicyGenie was created for the World's Largest Hackathon using Bolt.new. My goal: make legal compliance accessible to every internet creator — regardless of budget or legal background.

The mission was simple:

“Turn compliance into a 60-second process.”

🧱 How I Built It

I used Bolt.new to design and code the entire frontend (built with Vite + React + Tailwind), and Supabase for authentication, database, and API integration.

Core features:

  • Smart, form-based policy generation
  • Free & Pro plans with feature gating
  • Referral-based credit system
  • Role-based dashboard (Visitor, Free, Pro, Admin)
  • Export options (TXT, HTML, DOCX)
  • Custom branding for Pro users
  • Policy history, regeneration, and versioning
  • Rate-limited API endpoint for external use (WIP)
  • Future-ready Stripe integration

🤖 What I Learned

  • How to design and build a real SaaS product in days using Bolt
  • Auth & plan logic with Supabase RLS
  • Building a dynamic feature-gated system using plan enforcement
  • Writing scalable prompts for legal AI generation
  • How to scope big features into deliverable, hackathon-ready modules
  • Why real users care more about trust, simplicity, and speed

🔥 Challenges

  • Creating high-quality legal content using AI — that feels trustworthy and safe
  • Designing a UX that makes legal forms feel easy, not overwhelming
  • Managing dynamic limits between free, Pro, and pay-per-policy logic
  • Building everything solo within a limited timeframe, including UI, backend, database, API prompts, and the entire brand
