Overview
Polario is a revolutionary platform designed to break down the walls of polarization in America by transforming the way we consume media. In a time where the majority of our news may come from unreliable sources that don’t fully show the whole argument, like TikTok, our website aims to provide a balanced and comprehensive understanding of current events by presenting both sides of every argument.
At Polario, we believe in fostering a culture of informed and open-minded dialogue. By adding comment sections to each topic and article posted, our innovative approach to media ensures that users gain insights from diverse perspectives, encouraging a deeper understanding of complex issues. Whether you lean left, or right, or prefer to stay in the center, our platform is your gateway to a more nuanced and inclusive news experience.
What Inspired Me
With the upcoming presidential election, increasing riots and protests, and more people straying away from seeing a middle ground, polarization has become more apparent than ever before in America. When I moved to America, this was disheartening to see, as I had always viewed America as a strong country, but now it seems as if people are losing sight our national pride and unity. After learning about history in school, from AP World to AP Gov, it's clear to me that America needs to unify once again, which is why I created Polario.
What I Learned and Challenges I've Faced
Throughout this project, I learned a lot about both politics and technology. Making the Figma design was quite challenging, as I wanted to make the website aesthetically pleasing while also making it accessible from a user perspective. Additionally, as this was the first hackathon I've done alone, I learned how to properly manage my time and hold myself accountable without others motivating me, and I improved skills that I usually don't practice when doing hackathons, like presenting and explaining the project.
How I Built My Project
I built Polario using Figma, to highlight the main idea of the website and the features it contains. By using Figma, I was able to fully represent the vision I have for Polario, without being restrained by any lack of programming skills I might have.
What's Next for Polario?
I hope to continue exploring the possibilities for Polario, eventually publishing a fully functional website and promoting people across America to use it with the goal of unifying America's political atmosphere. This year I plan on collaborating with others to program Polario into a website using HTML, CSS, and Javascript, as well as integrating AI components.
