Project Story: Bridgie — Your Community Wellness Guide
Inspiration
The inspiration for Bridgie came from seeing how difficult it can be for people — especially those facing stress, isolation, or financial barriers — to find supportive, local wellness resources.
While large healthcare systems exist, many individuals don’t know where to start when looking for community-based support, free or low-cost wellness programs, or group activities that foster well-being and connection.
We wanted to create an approachable, friendly AI assistant that could act as a "first step," helping anyone — regardless of background or means — discover accessible wellness opportunities in their area. The name Bridgie reflects this mission: acting as a "bridge" between individuals and the resources that can help them feel better.
What it does
Bridgie is a chat-based AI wellness navigator. Users can tell Bridgie how they’re feeling, where they are, and what kinds of support they need. Bridgie responds with empathy and helpful recommendations drawn from local data sources.
Current MVP capabilities (as of Hackathon submission):
- Simple web-based chatbot interface.
- Users can chat with Bridgie about:
- Their current health/wellness needs (mental health, physical activity, social connection, etc.).
- Their budget and barriers (cost sensitivity, transportation, mobility).
- Their location (zip code or general area).
- Bridgie provides a list of local resources such as:
- Primary care providers
- Yoga studios
- Wellness centers
How we built it
We built Bridgie as a web application with:
- A Chat Interface that hosts the core experience.
- A system prompt and conversational flow designed to keep the tone warm, supportive, and helpful.
- Pre-filtered data for local wellness resources in San Francisco.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Developed an engaging visual identity with the Bridgie mascot.
- Delivered a proof-of-concept that can be expanded with real data sources and additional wellness dimensions.
What's next for Bridgie
We are excited to continue building out Bridgie beyond the Hackathon:
- Add the ability to generate a personalized Wellness Plan that users can take away.
- Enrich recommendations with more "out of the box" wellness ideas, such as:
- Nature walks
- Board game cafés
- Friday Night Magic events
- Community art workshops
- Peer support groups
- Integrate real, dynamic data sources (Google Maps API, local listings, community organizations).
- Implement geolocation and filtering based on accessibility, mobility needs, and language.
- Expand to support more cities and diverse user profiles.
Ultimately, we want Bridgie to help anyone — from newcomers to a city, to those feeling isolated or low on energy — find accessible, meaningful ways to connect with their community and improve their well-being.
