Inspiration
Traditional financial education is often boring, highly technical, and hard to digest. We wanted to solve this problem by taking complex concepts—like inflation, the gold standard, smart contracts, and blockchain—and breaking them down into addictive, visual, and interactive "micro-capsules." We were inspired by the "Learn-to-Earn" philosophy of Web3 and the engaging gamification mechanics of apps like Duolingo. We believe you shouldn't need a computer to mine value; you should use your brain.
What it does
POL (Proof of Learn) is a gamified educational platform—essentially a "Duolingo for economics and Web3". It makes learning addictive by rewarding progress. When users complete new levels, they earn XP and climb a global leaderboard (The Monthly Tournament). Top players are rewarded with POL Tokens, a virtual currency stored in an internal wallet that can be exchanged in the Marketplace for real-world prizes.
To keep users engaged and form habits, we implemented an Energy system (Zaps ⚡), Daily Streaks (🔥), and final "Boss" levels (🏆) to test their knowledge.
How we built it
The ecosystem consists of two main parts:
- Mobile App: Built with React Native and Expo to ensure a seamless cross-platform experience on iOS and Android.
- Admin Panel: Developed using React, Vite, and Tailwind CSS for fast and efficient content management.
- Backend & Database: We used Supabase (PostgreSQL) to handle user authentication, track gamification progress (XP, energy, streaks), and securely manage the internal token wallets and leaderboards.
Challenges we ran into
Designing a fair, "Anti-Farming" economy was a major challenge. We had to ensure the app rewards real learning, not just repetitive actions. We solved this by designing the system so users only earn XP when progressing through new concepts on the map, preventing them from just replaying "Level 1" to farm points.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are really proud of the "Aha! Moments" we've created in the curriculum. By using a conversational tone and interactive cards where the user has to guess historical outcomes, we've made learning about finance feel like listening to a great story rather than reading a textbook.
What we learned
We learned how to effectively balance gamification mechanics (like limiting Energy to prevent burnout) with meaningful educational content. We also gained valuable experience in structuring a secure, scalable internal token economy using Supabase.
What's next for Proof of Learn (POL)
We plan to expand the curriculum to cover more advanced Web3 topics (like DeFi and NFTs), eventually transition our internal POL tokens to real on-chain cryptocurrencies, and build out a comprehensive marketplace where users can redeem their knowledge for tangible rewards.
