Inspiration

The inspiration for Project Pokokku sprouted from a discussion with the hackathon team members regarding how we can close the gap of unfair access to education opportunities for underprivileged students in Malaysia . Education, we believed, was the key to unlock their potential and break the cycle of disadvantage. The idea of utilizing technology to bridge this gap blossomed in our mind, leading to the birth of Project Pokokku. We designed the platform, naming it "Pokokku," meaning "My Tree" in Malay. The name symbolized growth, strength, and personal connection. Our platform featured a user-friendly interface that enabled students to easily explore and compare different educational opportunities and scholarships.

What it does

Project Pokokku aimed to be more than just a platform. Collaborating with the team members, we embarked on a journey to build a one-stop, centralized platform that would empower underprivileged students in Malaysia.

How we built it

We building the Project Pokokku on the Wix platform, with a touch of coding.

Challenges we ran into

1) Limited Resources and time constraints: resource and time constraints posed a challenge. Balancing our regular commitments while dedicating time to Pokokku was demanding. 2) Lack of experience in website development and data collection.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of our proudest accomplishments is the development of a framework for the centralized student hub, born from meticulous research and collaborative discussions. Through these efforts, we crafted a vision that could bridge the gap between underprivileged students and educational opportunities. This framework lays the groundwork for Project Pokokku's potential to transform lives.

Our journey led us to design a prototype. This prototype, though currently in its infancy, encapsulates the essence of our vision. It demonstrates the power of using digital marketing and technology to address educational inequality, connecting students with the resources they deserve.

What we learned

The journey with building project Pokokku has taught us that innovation knows no boundaries. With determination, a willingness to learn, and a touch of code, we can transform ideas into platforms that uplift communities and inspire change.

What's next for Pokokku

a) Tutoring bridge: A bridge to connect students and the NGO. (collaborate with the NGO); b) AI-driven Content Classification: Automatically categorize various types of website content, aiding users in browsing and selecting resources more effortlessly; c) Feedback Mechanism: Allow evaluation and provide suggestions for websites listed, for the purpose of enhancing and optimizing website content; d) Scholarship Application Guide: Streamline the scholarship application process.
