Inspiration
We were inspired by our deep desire to help the world. And we believe through us the world will be inspired to help itself.
What it does
The purpose is to connect to the website and then buy into a Texas Hold'em style poker game, where you will then be able to win money from other people. With your winnings you are able to choose a charity for the money to go to.
How we built it
The backend poker game is coded in c++ and compiled with gnu, and the website was created using a program called Outsystems.
Challenges we ran into
A big challenge is that the website does not work, and we don't know why. Also the poker game in c++ is unfinished. A challenge that would have come up is figuring out how to actually run the game through the website, and also a way to network separate poker client programs to work together.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of the poker game. Poker is more complicated then I remembered when we thought about the idea. It was very fun to come up with solutions to build the poker application.
What we learned
This was definitely a lesson on scope. Non of us had been to a hackathon prior and weren't really sure of what to expect. We also became aware of what we didn't know which is that non of us knew how to work on a program together. We also learned us the importance of planning your program. When using c++ I found it very useful to plan ahead. It kept my thoughts very organized.
What's next for Poker Charity
Most of the group bailed but I'm going to finish the poker game. I think I'll turn it into a single desktop application with a couple bots to play against.
