Inspiration

Pokemon is my favourite anime which I can watch for hours continuously and Pikachu and Eevee being two of my favourite pokemon characters. Since the theme of the hackathon was to create something related to cartoon or anime, so I thought of creating a filter in which I can create something related to pokemon and at the same time give some anime feel, so I decided to add an animated mask on the users face and make the pokemon sit on the shoulder of the user aka "Trainer".

What it does

It is an Instagram and Facebook filter in which user can use back or front camera to try it out. In this filter there is an animated mask placed on the face of the user and two pokemon Pikachu and Eevee (the cutest pokemon) are placed on the shoulder. Not only that, you can also blink your eyes and see the same in the filter as well. When you tilt your head sideways i.e. towards any pokemon, then that pokemon start moving there head giving the sense of interaction and you can hear the voice of that pokemon at that time as well. This makes the experience even more immersive and enjoyable.

How we built it

I built it using SparkAR Studio and Patch Editor. Along with that, I also worked on Adobe Xd to create the textures for the face. I took help of SparkAR library to download the models of Pikachu, Eevee and the Cap. I created the animation for the pokemon using patch editor by creating a loop animation and changing their head rotation using it.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge that I faced was to place the pokemons on the shoulder of the user and make them animate when the user turns the head towards the pekemon. Another was to create and find the textures that could give the anime feel to the user.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest accomplishment that I am proud of is, I was able to create this filter which I was thinking of since a long time and I was able to create this filter during this hackathon in few hours and also get it published on Instagram and Facebook

What we learned

I learned how to place the objects on the shoulder of the person and also how to add animated face on the users face and also how to make interactions with the objects at a particular time and how to create sounds output.

What's next for Poke Filter

I would try to add background segmentation and create some really nice background for the user so that they can really feel that pokemon thing.
