Inspiration
In the beginning I was not sure what to do, but I saw my kids playing Pokémon, so I figured I would do something basic that my kids would like. Before I was finished, they wanted to start comparing right away.
What It Does
On the website, you can type in 2 Pokémon names and it will:
- Generate their ability cards
- Do a battle analysis based on their stats
- Determine a winner
- Allow you to download the generated stat cards
How We Built It
This was a simple one, by design. I didn’t want to do something too difficult that would get me stuck fixing issues. The goal was to be almost 100% ready in one shot.
Challenges We Ran Into
This was my first time building something like this. I come from a backend development background, and adapting to this type of coding was quite a shift.
Fixing a logical error is 100 times harder than fixing a code error. A logic error can mislead you into thinking something is correct, whereas a code error is usually more straightforward to identify.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
Even though it was something simple, the feeling of having done it in such a short time is awesome! And making my kids smile with something they love... PRICELESS!
What We Learned
The learning curve for this kind of development is smaller than that of becoming a full developer. But with AI, I can now speed up the process in ways I never imagined in my younger days.
What's Next for Poke Bolt Battle
At the moment, I’m not sure what the next steps are — but I can certainly say I see the big potential in Bolt.
