Building a tool that allows users to narrow down their search when they are looking for attractions and helps them to get there.

How it works

Given your location and a search radius, this application finds the attractions or points of interest (POIs) that are close to your location. You can also select the POI categories that you are interested in to filter the results. Having the POIs placed on the map, this application can also show you how to get to a specific POI. You just need to select a POI on the map (i.e., click on a green marker), which will result in opening a popup window, and then hit the "Navigate" button. You will then see a step-by-step navigation guide at the top-right of the screen. Now you can drag the blue marker or enter an address/postal code in the address bar to get new directions to that POI on the fly.

Challenges I ran into

Integrating different components to make them working together.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The navigation service that helps users finding the available routes to a specific POI. And of course that it works world-wide.

What I learned

Done is better than perfect.

What's next for POI Finder

Adding more POI categories, adding more navigation options for example for walking, cycling, or using public transit.
