Inspiration

Most budgeting apps stop at “what did I spend?” We wanted something closer to a personal CFO—treating your life like a company. Salary becomes revenue, living costs become expenses, and assets sit on a balance sheet. The goal: help anyone see whether their life plan is actually funded—without selling financial products.

What it does

Pofio is an AI-powered personal finance app (live on the App Store as “AI家計簿Pofio”). You log income, expenses, and assets. It builds company-style financial statements (P/L and B/S), KPI reports (emergency fund months, fixed-cost ratio, cash/investment mix, peer benchmarks), a 16-type money personality diagnosis, and a life simulation that projects whether retirement funding holds under events like marriage, kids, housing, and career changes. An AI analysis report then delivers personalized CFO-style commentary.

How we built it

  • iOS: SwiftUI + SwiftData + CloudKit sync
  • Android: Kotlin + Jetpack Compose + Room (built, not yet shipped)
  • Backend: Node.js / Express / TypeScript on Google Cloud Run, calling OpenAI (gpt-5-mini) behind Firebase Auth + App Check
  • Localization across Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, Indonesian, and Philippine English, with currency-aware formatting (JPY, USD, TWD, IDR, PHP)

Challenges we ran into

Designing finance UX that feels clear without becoming a product pitch. Keeping AI advice neutral and useful while rate-limiting and securing the API. Modeling life events and currency-specific defaults so retirement projections stay believable across countries. And keeping iOS and Android feature parity while CloudKit sync is iOS-first.

What we learned

Recording money is only fuel. The real product is turning raw transactions into statements, personality, scenarios, and plain-language insight—so users leave with a decision, not just a chart.

What's next

Ship Android, deepen the life simulation, and expand AI insights while staying product-neutral: everyone deserves a personal CFO.
