Improve a portfolio template as a group using github

Inspiration

I was mainly drawn towards working on the UI of the website.

What it does

It is a static portfolio website with a number of features such as Dark Mode, Animated Background, GitHub stats etc.,

How we built it

We were given a template which had to be improved. The tech stack we used includes Ruby, Jekyll, HTML, SCSS and JS. We collaborated as a team on github by creating issues, assigning them and fixing them.

Challenges we ran into

  • I was new to Ruby. So, I took time to set up the development environment.
  • Although I worked with git earlier, I didn't have a clear understanding of it. I mainly struggled with merge conflicts.
  • I took time in figuring out working with SCSS as I am not experienced in it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The template given to us was plain. We, as a team, have managed to add a number of features. I have worked on:

  • Adding links to NavBar - I have added links to navigation bar to scroll to relevant sections. Issue #7 #21
  • Responsive Navigation Bar - I have added a dropdown menu to the navigation bar for smaller screens. Issue #43
  • Animated Background - I have added an animated background for the profile section to enhance UI. Issue #25

What we learned

  • Learned how to work with git and understood git workflow
  • Learned to resolve merge conflicts
  • Learned a lot about SCSS, Bootstrap and other UI elements
  • Learned how to collaborate and work together as a team
  • Learned some interesting technologies from my pod mates

What's next for Pod-3.1.3-Portfolio

We look forward to working on projects and exploring various technologies over the next few weeks by collaborating with one another and building a stronger bond among us.
