PocketPal
Inspiration
The elderly are in need of our help. We will help.
What it does
PocketPal is a microcontroller application that detects falling over using a MicroBit and sends a signal over serial (to be upgraded to radio/bluetooth in the future). If no cancellation is initiated within the countdown, the receiever then broadcasts a call and SMS request to Twilio in order to call emergency services and texts closed ones.
How I built it
- Twilio
- Microbit
- Google cloud services
- Sweat and tears
Challenges I ran into
- Broken Microbit sensors
- Bad online IDE
- Awful support for Bluetooth and accelerometer
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Making the world a better place
What I learned
- Never trust documentation
What's next for pocketpal
- A better microcontroller that actually supports Bluetooth properly
- Broadcasting to other pocketpals using radio so that they can pick up the signal and make the calls/SMS
Built With
- arm
- google-cloud
- microbit
- python
- twilio
- xml
