The problem
Financial literacy is the life skill most schools skip — and the students who miss it pay for it with the first "only ₦45,000 a month" phone plan. Free resources don't fill the gap: they are dollar-only, reading-heavy, and never check whether anyone actually learned anything.
The solution — learn, decide, apply, measured
Measure first. A 6-question baseline (no studying) captures the "before". A matching post-assessment turns the difference into a measured learning gain on the dashboard. Learn in 4-minute chunks. Eight modules (budgets, saving, credit, spending traps, investing, goal math, earning, scam safety). Every check-in question explains every option — a wrong answer becomes the lesson, not a penalty. Decide in real situations. Money Moves puts choices like "finance the phone upgrade" in front of the student and tracks wallet, debt, confidence and a decision-quality score. Apply to your own money. The planner takes real income in the student's currency (15 currencies — naira, cedis, rand, and more), scores it against the 50/30/20 guide and returns concrete fixes. The trap gets its own tool. Type any "only X a month" instalment offer and PocketPath reveals the real total, extra percentage and implied APR — or how many months of saving would buy it outright. Goals with maths. Name a target; PocketPath gives the weekly amount and the date you'll hit it. Grounded coach. The money coach answers from the student's own plan, goals and scores, using an OpenAI-compatible LLM when configured or a built-in deterministic coach offline.
What we can measure
Learning gain: post − pre assessment score, per student. Behaviour: decision-quality score, debt carried, wallet trajectory across scenarios. Application: plan-health score and savings share vs. the 20% guide. Reach: 15 currencies, lightweight frontend, and offline-capable operation suitable for low-end phones or school laptops.
Honest limits: the content is a starting curriculum, not a full course; scores measure short-term recall and simulated decisions, not long-term behaviour; there is no teacher dashboard yet.
Track: Open Impact & Community — PocketPath is a financial empowerment tool that gives students practical money skills, localized planning, decision practice, and measurable learning outcomes.
AI disclosure: AI was used for debugging using Claude sonnet which was used under the my direction.
