Inspiration
Our friend Oli is a very sickly man this weekend, and we thought he could use a boost. To make sure he remembers to take care of himself and complete all of his tasks in a timely manner, we thought we should make an app to help him out.*
What it does
A tiny version of yourself, totally not modeled after any kind of existing personalised avatar character made by any multinational corporations, lives inside your phone and is counting on you to take care of it. Add tasks you need to complete, sorted into groups specific to your needs, and **tick them off **to please your MiniMii- I mean, Mini Me. Haha.
How we built it
Made in Godot, PocketOli was built with love and custom assets created in Blender and Inkscape.
Challenges we ran into
There were a great many, so here's a whistlestop tour:
- Will forgot how to rig, and many nightmarish animations arose as a result.
- Only Isaac knew Godot and the rest of us had to learn it from scratch.
- The Mii creator we wanted to export from doesn't actually export Miis as 3D models.
- Roblox is blocked on Eduroam, so we couldn't slack off.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
There weren't a great many, so here's a whistlestop tour:
- Learning how to write pseudo-legal documents.
- Remembering how to rig.
- Learning how to do proper UI scaling.
- Making people laugh.
What we learned
See the previous section. 😜
What's next for PocketOli: Your Self Care Mini-Me!
Global deployment on various app stores, sold as a subscription service for £20 a month (you can't cancel within the first 12 months). PocketOli will revolutionise productivity, boosting the economy exponentially and fixing all of societies problems. These seem to be realistic goals and we aim to meet them within the next 12 hours.
*Oli has signed a release form for the use of his likeness. He is so goated, big up UoN HackSoc.
