Inspiration

Financial Literacy is an important aspect of money budgeting. We wanted to create a fun and UX friendly application that gives a twist on saving and spending. With our handhelds always in the back of our pockets, we thought of bringing budgeting practices right to your fingertips.

What it does

PocketME helps set goals for products they wish to purchase in the near present or future. The mobile app helps end users track how much they have saved up for their purchase goals and offers valuable analytics on how they're progressing! Along with the implemented share feature, you're able to share your short term list with friends or family for a quick and easy wish list.

How we built it

We used Figma to design the prototype of our mobile application. We also used AdobeXD and Photoshop to create the mockup images for our website. We used WebsiteBuilder for the site and hardcode aspects of HTML and CSS as well.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first time using Figma so there was definitely the struggle of learning about the software. It was a lot of trial and error but thanks to the workshop held by SheHacks, and the help of mentors and an extensive amount of Youtube Tutorials, we were able to deliver our idea. Another issue that arose was filming the demo as we kept making the video 7-10 minutes long . We wanted to include every detail; but also know the importance of a concise video so we sat down and analyzed what key features we wanted to highlight.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of the accomplishments we’re proud of was being able to learn how to use a new software for prototyping the design interface. It gave us a chance to focus on a different side of mobile app development, one that we had very little exposure to until today. This hackathon gave all of us the opportunity to enhance our overall skills in app development & the opportunity to collaborate with others.

What we learned

As mentioned in challenges; over the course of the hackathon we learned how to use figma. We also learned more about how to organize our time in order to be as productive as possible and still have fun! SheHacks was a good opportunity to work on fleshing out application ideas. In our time as computer science students we have only had a few chances to develop apps so it was a nice change of pace.

What's next for PocketME

The next step for PocketMe is to further develop the app on Android Studio; in order to enhance the functionality of the app and provide an overall greater user experience. It is also our goal to learn Kotlin in order to further develop the mobile app; as we have yet to learn the language. We value expanding repertoire of programming languages.
