Inspiration

Math Education is more of a "memorize the formula and you will do well" with people not understanding the fundamentals of mathematics in order to do so. This leads to people doing math that will be easily forgettable after learning, which is a trap that some of our project members had. We aim to change this, by providing a long and detailed explanation of math problems and starting from the fundamentals, to teach any person willing to learn.

What it does

If we ever finish the project, it will be able to take in new math problems, add them to a problem set on an existing level, and allow the user to complete the math problem with understanding. This could be done either by grading the steps that they took in order to complete the problem, and allows for the better understanding of math.

How we built it

We built it using expo and React Native.

Challenges we ran into

It was our team's first time making a mobile app, and none of us knew React Native or Javascript well. This caused our team to get off on the wrong foot, making it harder for us to continue on with the project and create a working build of what we envisioned.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to get the mobile app up and running with correct navigation, and although we did not finish most of the functional features of the app, we are still proud of the amount of work that we contributed to the project

What we learned

We learned how to use React Native, Expo, and a lot of Javascript and CSS.

What's next for Pocket Math

We plan on adding a database for corresponding math questions and answers, a place to store these answers, and places for other people to put new math problems
