Inspiration

Pocket Jesus is inspired by John 14:21, a Bible verse in which Jesus promises to love and reveal Himself to people who follow His teaching:

"Those who accept my commands and obey them are the ones who love me. My Father will love those who love me; I too will love them and reveal myself to them."

What it does

The app introduces the user to who Jesus is and what He taught. As you learn His commands, what they mean and how to apply them, you can keep a journal of your progress and set reminders for later.

Add 7 journal notes for free, then purchase the Unlimited in-app purchase (powered by RevenueCat) to add as many journal notes as you like.

As your journal grows, you can filter your notes by command, making it easy to keep track of your progress over time.

Keep your journal private by enabling the auto-lock feature, and your journal will be hidden when you switch to another app or close the app. Access your journal again when you return to the app by using FaceID, biometrics or your unlock code.

How we built it

The app was built from scratch using React Native, Expo, SQLite, React Navigation, Notifee and RevenueCat.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was ensuring Jesus' teaching is explained correctly and simply enough for people of any background to absorb. All the app's content and functionality have been reviewed and approved by an ordained church minister.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have made something anyone can use, whether they've been a Christian for a long time or simply have an interest in what Jesus taught. People can learn and develop their relationship with Jesus at their own pace.

What we learned

We learned a lot about mobile app development and how easy it is to transfer existing knowledge of web design and development by using React Native, Expo and related frameworks.
