Pobyto helps people living in or moving to Czechia understand their residence process, prepare documents, track deadlines, and communicate with authorities in Czech.

Inspiration

What inspired me was the difficulty of bureaucracy and visa processes in Czechia. I have lived here for around 10 years, and even after all these years, some procedures are still hard to understand. Official websites can be confusing, and the language barrier makes the process even more difficult. So I decided to make an app that might help other foreigners and myself too.

What it does

Pobyto provides information about residence and visa situations in Czechia and helps people understand what to do step by step. The information is in one place and clearly structured.

Pobyto also helps with the language barrier. There is an AI feature that can help create Czech drafts for communication with authorities, provide translations, and explain letters and requirements. The app also includes useful Czech phrases.

How we built it

I built Pobyto with Expo and React Native. I also used AI while developing it. It helped me with writing code, fixing bugs, and building some features faster.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was finding accurate information and accounting for edge cases, because all situations are unique and may differ from person to person.

Also, Google Play's testing and submission process was a bit more nerve-wracking than I expected, but I finally got production access! :D

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of the AI feature in the Ask screen. It can create a Czech draft for communication and show what it means in the user's language, which can be useful in different visa situations.

I am also proud that I managed to make Pobyto in around a month.

What we learned

I learned that making an app in around a month is actually possible nowadays :D

I am a React developer, and the React Native experience was valuable to me. I also learned about things I did not think about at the beginning, like Google Play testing, subscriptions, app policies, and all the small things needed to actually publish an app.

I'm really happy that Pobyto has already made it to the Samsung Galaxy Store and received Google Play production access!

I gained so much valuable experience from building Pobyto, and I'm really thankful to Shipaton and its organizers for this opportunity! :)

What's next for Pobyto

The next step for Pobyto is to find its first users and make the app as helpful as possible!

There are more features I would like to add: a camera feature so users can take a photo of an OAMP letter. I also want to make the AI more like a virtual helper in the app. Maybe add it as a chatbot tab..?(not as a circle bot-helper for sure) Idk yet :D

I will continue improving Pobyto based on the reviews and feedback I hopefully get.
