Inspiration
Finding Product management courses and completing them is not a problem, especially at this time. There are numerous available courses for product managers. The major problem is how to apply what has been learnt in these courses to gain hands-on experience. When I was transitioning to product management, I faced this challenge, and many entry-level product managers face similar challenges as well. The available PM courses do not provide a practical application of the frameworks taught, and the ones that do are relatively expensive and unaffordable for many people trying to build their product management career and land their first job. Which is why I built Versit. A practical and interactive learning platform for product managers. While platforms like Uxcel, Leetcode, and DataCamp exist for other professions, there are no Product management curriculum-focused platforms. This is the gap that Versit aims to fill.
A second reason I built this platform is to show entry-level product managers that they don’t have to wait until they get a job or have a team to gain hands-on experience. They can explore platforms like Bolt to build a product that would put them one step ahead of their competitors during interviews
What it does
A practical and interactive learning platform for product managers. It provides practical scenarios and questions to help new and aspiring product managers test their skills and apply knowledge. The platform currently offers features such as project briefs (providing applicable scenarios on different topics and skills). Project showcase (allowing people to share their work and receive reviews from peers and industry experts). Assessment (an interactive quiz to test one’s skill level in different areas). As the platform grows, we will introduce interactive courses and a PM-targeted portfolio showcase.
How we built it
The frontend and backend were completely developed with Bolt, which created a clean design, responsive interface and functional application. User authentication and project showcase features were integrated using Supabase.
To ensure the platform reflected real industry needs, I conducted interviews with aspiring and early-stage PMs and iterated based on their feedback. In under 3 weeks, I went from concept to a functioning MVP that includes real-world scenarios, submission review workflows, and assessments.
Challenges we ran into
One of my major challenges was my token getting exhausted. While I had completed the entire project, I still needed to make some UI and functionality tweaks, and I didn't have the resources to purchase extra tokens, so I had to apply my basic coding skills with the help of ChatGPT to make those fixes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
My major accomplishment is building the product. As a product manager, I've had many product ideas that just ended in either a design prototype or in my Notion doc because of the resources required to develop them. But for the first time, it was not just an idea; I was able to turn it into a product that would be used globally with a proper marketing approach.
What we learned
As someone with little to no technical background, I had to learn many technical terms and frameworks. One important thing I learnt while building was that, to achieve a good result with AI platforms like Bolt, one has to write a comprehensive prompt with detailed requirements and use cases.
What's next for Versit
Next for Versit is launching our public beta and validating our core features with early users. We’re focused on three key milestones:
- Refining the learning experience by incorporating interactive and practical learning, detailed feedback rubrics, and skill tracking dashboards.
- Building strategic partnerships with experienced product managers and tech communities to co-create real-world scenarios, assessments, and courses.
- Growing our user base, starting with 1,000 PMs from underserved markets through targeted outreach and partnerships. Over the next 6 months, our goal is to establish Versit as the go-to platform for hands-on product management learning, affordable, practical, and built for the next generation of product leaders.
