Inspiration
For me it was always hard to find people to play games with online, due to different time zones, ranking levels, or just the time. So I came up the idea of PlayPal, a platform that you can find people similar to your level, or those who are higher and can carry you forward in the game. These Pals then in return get paid for their playing time.
What it does
PlayPal is a marketplace for gamers to find Pals. You can choose a game that you want to play, find other players who are online and available, and start an order. You can also submit a quick order where qualified Pals will bid, and you can choose the best offer or Pal. PlayPal also has built in Voice room using LiveSDK. All the purchase and payout is done through Stripe.
How we built it
This project is built entirely on GPT and Codex. Initially started on GPT 5.5, and in the middle was switched over to GPT 5.6. All the image assets were generated using Codex image generation. Backend and Database is hosted in Supabase. Deployment and analytics is on Vercel.
Challenges we ran into
Only challenge was Stripe Connect integration. It worked well in Sandbox in one shot. However v1 Accounts API were no longer supported in Stripe live environment. So I had to migrate to v2 API and redo the testing in preview environment.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The whole idea works well end to end. The unique pet system is also working. Excited about future enhancements such as pet leveling and AI capabilities, such as AI Pals, smart quick reply messages etc.
What we learned
Towards the end I tried prompting using HTML in Canvas + Three.js to create some new fancy web design element. But the result was still subpar. I will leave that as a future enhancement.
What's next for PlayPal
Promotion on all platforms such as Discord, Reddit, TikTok and Facebook. Future roadmap such as gifts, Pal promotions, pet level system.
