PlayASAP โ€” Imagine. Play.

Inspiration ๐Ÿ’ก

What would be the next Flappy bird? A ridiculous sentence.

We all have had crazy ideas for games before. A dinosaur racing flying samosas. A cat battling against aliens. Something ludicrous enough that no game developer in their right mind would ever consider building it.

...But you have to know how to code to build it. And that's not always ideal.

We want to make a world where technology doesn't just make us more productive, but more creative, more impulsive, and most importantly, happier. This is how we arrived at

PlayASAP.

The Summary ๐ŸŽฎ

"Describe a game. Play it."

PlayASAP is a tool that converts simple text prompts into a playable 2D game in a web browser, with minimal or no coding experience.

It's about making the barrier to entry as small as possible, as a way to promote creativity, impulsiveness, and accessibility.

Who knows what the next big game is โ€” but it's probably not a first-party title from Electronic Arts.

The Process โš™๏ธ

When we started the process of building PlayASAP, we knew that we wanted to base it on one simple experience:

Prompt

โ†’ AI Interpretation

โ†’Playable 2D Game

We designed the rest of the project around that one idea. Then, we began to tackle the long process of making that concept a reality. The main focus was to erase any obstacles between a person's imagination, and a game they can play.

Hurdles and Discoveries ๐Ÿšง

The hardest part of this project was not generating a game. It was generating a game that was actually fun to play.

Gameplay functionality, controls, game-play mechanics, interactions, and objective all factor into a game, not just graphics.

We also had to balance flexibility and accessibility with reliability. And design a simple, intuitive prompt system for the website.

But above all, we had to remember that we're designing a tool that will help people realize their creativity, not just another coding utility.

The Future ๐Ÿš€

We hope to see the day where creativity and productivity tools use generative AI to lower barriers to entry and promote self-expression. In the future, we think games like this could use more mechanics and creative power, for the player's sake.

We didn't just want to promote the development of games. We wanted to make developing games feel like playing a game.

And that's PlayASAP.
