Inspiration
I participated in HULT 2021 and Food for Good was the theme for the year. I really wanted to work more on our idea of connecting producers directly to consumers, after the campus event and hence I decided to take up the idea and give it my own touch for WiCHacks. Our idea was very generic for HULT and hence I scaled it down for the local businesses and community and created a platform for the business to help advance and keep an account of their customers by awarding loyalty points all while helping reach sustainable development goals and for the people to share their wins and their loyalty to the planet.
What it does
It is an all in one solution for supporting local businesses and coming together as a community to help save the environment. Platy platform will bring local businesses i.e. the producers in our scenario to come forward with their story and how they are supporting sustainable development goals. Initially, it is by rewarding loyalty points to the customers who exchange wasted food or recyclables with the business that will partner up with clean energy producers or recycling company for the processing of these items on their end. For the customer, the platform offers a shop at home option and a way to gain loyalty points an redeem them for later purchases through third-party apps. In the Platy portal, the customer can share their opinions and stories about how shopping with Platy sponsored shops have changed the way they contributed to the environment or connect with other shoppers or members for a healthy exchange of ideas.
How I built it
I have built it in Figma, so my project is a full-fledged prototype. I started with this idea of being loyal to our planet by putting our deeds where our mouth is. We all talk about SDGs, pollution, etc. but some have the courage to do something for it and platy helps the small businesses who care to directly connect to their customers because in the food industry a direct link between the producers and customers. I learned about fairtrade in my previous hackathon where we introduced the customers and community to connect which helps in keeping everyone interested in Platy and the goals towards what we all are working for with an awesome way to tell your story and share your loyalty!
Challenges I ran into
The major challenge was connecting it all in a way that helps both businesses and customers. For businesses, I wanted to have a place where they can tell their story and connect directly with customers and also a place that can help them grow and optimize their process. For customers, I wanted to keep them connected and share their wins after they gain loyalty points by exchanging waste food or recyclable items with each purchasing.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm very proud of the idea and concept of Platy. The way it all came together and I was able to include it in one platform really is exhilarating. I am very proud of this project and I dearly hope that I will be able to keep it going and turn it into a fully functioning enterprise.
What I learned
During this process, I learned about small and medium enterprise in general along with cognitive psychology. I've always been interested in human-computer interaction and with this project, I researched consumer behaviour and how computers can affect it. Even though I have read a lot about sustainable development it is never enough to learn more because every time I come across this topic the situation always changes and not in a positive way.
What's next for Platy?
I hope to get Platy developed along with an awesome front-end, a logical back-end with databases and connections to a third-party in-shop loyalty app that will be supporting Platy. Once, I get this done I want to enter the market with my idea and sell it to businesses and people who will support it and be a part of this revolutionizing idea which can then be scaled to big businesses and a wider community.
