Inspiration

My main inspiration for this project is the effect that accountability and incentive can have on a person's actions. I find that the quality and quantify of my work goes up when I'm doing it around other people so I decided to try and build a platform that makes it easy to get that while also adding incentive. another issue I've encountered while studying is websites like Quizlet charge a fee to see solutions to textbook questions while the service is good quality it's quite annoying that the price is fixed and may not be affordable for everyone.

What it does

Plato gives users access to a study space called an Agora. Users can customize their agora through accessories sold in the marketplace they can also buy add-ons such as minigames that can be played during study breaks when other users join your agora they will be able to see these customizations. the marketplace also allows users to list educational services such as tutoring, quizzes so that other members can buy them if they wish to.

How we built it

The frontend of the application was built using React and the backend was built using Nodejs and Postgres

Challenges we ran into

I initially intended on making an Ethereum based DAPP However it was my first time programming something in the blockchain space and soon found that the knowledge level I currently had was not enough. In the end, I decided that given the time I had left I would make a simpler Centralized version of the application that still allows for users to accept payments by listing a wallet address alongside the services they publish on the website. I also wasn't able to get the

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Considering I worked on a team by myself I'm very pleased with the fact that I managed to at least submit a project as I've attended hackathons where even in a team we didn't manage to submit a project. Despite not getting to implement the decentralized version of the application I still learned a lot about blockchain technology (The biggest was the difference between a coin and a token was sort of a revelation for me)

What's next for Plato

I think it would be cool if the application was eventually transitioned into full-scale DAPP on the Ethereum Blockchain. I think using that technology the platform could be made into its own self-contained ecosystem and Implementing a utility token that rewards frequent users of the platform through Airdrops and potentially privileges' and users of the platform could be really cool. I think also potentially having an NFT Collection that is based on people's study time and things like that could provide a greater incentive to study using the platform and boost productivity.
