The Story Behind PLATO
Small contractors and local businesses often spend valuable time preparing quotations from material lists, scanned documents, handwritten estimates, and customer requirements. Manually transferring item details, checking prices, calculating totals, and formatting quotations can be tedious and prone to errors.
We came up with PLATO to simplify this process.
Our vision is to build an AI-powered assistant that transforms supported material lists and documents into structured, professional quotations. It will extract item descriptions and quantities, match them with a supplied price catalogue, flag missing or uncertain information, calculate totals, and generate a quotation that the user can review before sending.
Instead of merely summarizing a document, PLATO aims to help users complete an entire workflow—from document input to a reviewable quotation.
We plan to begin with a focused prototype using uploaded PDFs or images, a sample price catalogue, editable extracted information, transparent calculations, and downloadable PDF quotations. We will test it with realistic examples and make sure uncertain values can be corrected rather than silently guessed.
Our goal is to make quotation preparation simpler, faster, and more accessible for small businesses, while keeping the user in control of important pricing decisions.
