Inspiration

● In India, 22% of the population, roughly 280 million people, experience moderate or severe food insecurity, meaning they lack consistent access to adequate, nutritious food. (Global Hunger Index, 2023) ● Among these, 18.5%, equivalent to around 234 million individuals, struggle with severe food insecurity. This translates to nearly 420 million people potentially going hungry at least once a day. (Global Hunger Index, 2023) ● While poverty plays a role, the issue extends beyond just the minimum food cost of ₹25-30 per day, highlighting systemic food waste, inefficient distribution, and lack of access to nutritious options. (National Institute of Public Health, 2020) ● Food waste is a global issue, with around 30% of food produced for human consumption going uneaten in India alone. This translates to a staggering 74 million tons of wasted food annually, amounting to significant social and environmental costs. ● India has the highest child wasting rate in the world, at 18.7 percent, reflecting acute undernutrition

What it does

● Plateful Promise is more than just a restaurant. It's a social impact engine fueled by your love for good food and a genuine desire to fight hunger. ● This innovative restaurant concept tackles hunger with a two-pronged approach, seamlessly blending fine dining and social responsibility. ○ One side caters to the general public, offering a delectable menu and a posh, easily accessible location. ○ This generates the financial engine that powers the other side, a hidden gem focused on providing nutritious meals directly to children and homeless individuals in their shelters. ○ By leveraging profits from the "paying" restaurant, this initiative ensures sustainable support for those most in need. ● The model promotes open transactions not just of food, but of compassion, creating a ripple effect of generosity within the community. ● This unique approach not only addresses hunger but also fosters local employment opportunities and volunteer engagement, building a bridge between different segments of society.

How we built it

● This restaurant models caters to diverse palates and budgets, offering satisfying meals for both budget-conscious families and gourmet enthusiasts. With menu options comparable to the average Indian middle-class range of ₹250-₹500, it makes delicious experiences accessible while creating a remarkable social impact. ● Every satisfied customer contributes to a meaningful mission: for each plate ordered, another nourishing meal finds its way to someone in need. Utilizing an efficient profit model, this translates to approximately ₹100-₹200 per dining customer being directed towards supporting local homeless shelters. ● Join a dining experience that nourishes both body and spirit. By choosing this restaurant, you become part of a movement that turns every bite into an act of generosity, fuelling good within the community. ● To my extent of research and knowledge there are no other restaurants that follows similar structure of operations. In future part of expanding I consider making alignments with other food wastage collecting organisations to make a extensive access to foods and supplies.
