Inspiration

I was inspired by a line from Eitan’s brief: "...getting it from something you see and want to make to in your kitchen can be a challenge." It’s true! I see so many people doomscrolling TikToks but never cooking them because of not knowing where to start. I built Plated to bridge that gap – giving people the action to actually cook the meals they see.

What it does

AI Extraction: Magically turns TikTok, YouTube, and photo recipes into a clean, chef-style format. Magic Swap: Replaces ingredients intelligently (e.g., "Make this cheaper" or "I hate parsley") while keeping the recipe balanced. Journey Mode: Progressively teaches users how to cook, moving from "Girl Dinner" to fancy dishes. SOS Button: A panic button on every step that solves specific problems (like smoking pans or salty sauce) instantly. Gamified Savings: Tracks how much you save by cooking at home vs. ordering delivery. Share Extension: Allows users to share a video directly from TikTok to the app to import it instantly.

How I built it

I built it with Antigravity using Expo (React Native). Gemini: Used for the extraction and the "chef brain" behind Magic Swap. RevenueCat: Integrated for the "Premium" subscription to unlock unlimited AI features.

Challenges I ran into

They ranged from the technical challenge of making bottom sheets feel fluid in React Native to refining the prompts for Magic Swap (ensuring it was both fast and accurate). Also, a personal disaster: One day AI accidentally removed my commits from the last 3 days! But thanks to GitHub, I restored it pretty easily.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The Magic Swap Logic: I’m proud that it doesn't just randomly swap ingredients. I engineered the prompt to adapt the recipe based on the user's needs with actual chef logic. The UX: The "pull down to create" interaction on Recipes and Groceries pages feel really fluid and native.

What I learned

So much can be done if there's a deadline :) Also, a note for myself – check if the code actually pushed!

What's next for Plated

No matter the result of the contest, I plan to ship this app to the App Store! Next, I want to refine the logic for Magic Swap to support complex national cuisines (like Indian) and improve the grocery sorting. Also, based on feedback from friends, adding user photos to the recipes is a priority.
