Inspiration
When I was a volunteer, I used go and ask for food available for donation and I learned that it was all possible through good logistics. So that is the problem I'm trying to solve.
What it does
The idea is simple, we create a cluster of information by gathering it from people that are in need, organizations that can help us and of course, volunteers. We achieve that through our forms, people in need or knows someone that is in need can fill it out and tells what is going on. Organization can share information, food banks, all help is welcome. And volunteers is our heart, they are able to help with anything, even providing it own home as a temporary food bank.
How we built it
24 hours awake "xD". I went all-in in my comfort zone, using: Next.JS, Node.JS, React, AWS Services, Tailwind
Challenges we ran into
- Getting coordinates out of the map and passing it correctly to forms
- Managed to display data into a nice table with no headaches.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Every forms works, every data is saved, every saved data is being displayed. The Wheel is completed.
- Decent Design
- Had a nice planning sheet (personal)
What we learned
- Getting maps to work with server side rendering is annoying
- How easy it is to just save and pull data from MongoDB
- How easy is to get a free domain from GODaddy
What's next for Plate Aid
Can feed data into AI/ML like Kaggle
- Food is not the only thing that can be donated
- Farmers are important part handling hunger, a section dedicated to it
- Add charts for better visualization - MongoDB Charts
- AI/ML can create optimal routing for deliveries, logistics to where food needs to be and from.
Built With
- amazon-web-services
- mongodb
- next.js
- node.js
- react
- tailwind
- typescript
