What it does
PlasticBot uses AI and machine learning to automatically detect plastic in underwater images.
How we built it
I trained a YOLOv5 model using Jupyter Notebook and data from Roboflow to detect plastic waste in underwater images.
Challenges we ran into
Training the model was difficult because working with Jupyter Notebook and configuring the YOLOv5 code was challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully trained an AI model to detect plastic with high accuracy and created a web page to display its functions.
What we learned
I learned how to train an ML model using data from Roboflow and gained experience with HTML and CSS.
What's next for PlasticBot
I plan to expand to real-time monitoring and to collaborate with environmental organizations to deploy PlasticBot to help clean up the oceans.
