Inspiration

The spark for "Plastic Warrior" ignited from a deep-seated concern about the escalating global plastic pollution crisis. Inspired by initiatives like the Playing for the Planet Alliance, we set out to leverage gaming as a transformative tool for environmental education. Our vision was clear: to create a game that not only entertains but also empowers players to become champions of sustainability.

What it does

"Plastic Warrior" challenges players to tackle the plastic crisis through engaging gameplay. Players step into the shoes of Ari, who, armed with the "Stone of Love," transforms plastic monsters back into harmless waste. Set in the vibrant landscapes of Southeast Asia, the game blends action, puzzle-solving, and adventure with a strong environmental message, urging players to reflect on the real-world impact of plastic pollution.

How we built it

Utilizing Google Flutter and Dart, with Package Flame and bonfire, we crafted "Plastic Warrior" for its cross-platform compatibility, ensuring a seamless gaming experience on any device. The game's vibrant pixel art, created with AI tools due to our lack of a dedicated designer, brings to life the rich environments and characters. Integration with Google Wallet allows us to reward players with flashcards packed with recycling tips, bridging in-game achievements with practical environmental actions.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing engaging gameplay with educational content in a pixel art style within Flutter's framework was our main challenge. Additionally, integrating Google Wallet to deliver educational flashcards required innovative coding solutions. Overcoming the absence of a dedicated art designer, I embraced AI tools to fulfill the creative needs of our project, pushing the boundaries of conventional game design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a multi-platform game that educates on environmental sustainability stands as our crowning achievement. The innovative use of Google Wallet to reward players with educational content has set a new standard for interactive learning. Overcoming creative and technical challenges without a dedicated designer, and successfully using AI for art creation, showcases our resilience and innovative spirit.

What we learned

This project deepened our understanding of the power of gaming as an educational tool. We learned the intricacies of Flutter for cross-platform development, explored the creative potential of AI in design, and discovered new ways to integrate educational content seamlessly into gameplay. The project highlighted the importance of creativity, technical skills, and a deep commitment to sustainability.

What's next for Plastic Warriors

Our future plans include expanding the game with more levels and richer educational content, enhancing its cross-platform capabilities to ensure smoother gameplay across all devices, and strengthening the community features to foster ASEAN collaboration on sustainability challenges. We are focus on teenagers and young adult. By continuously integrating with technologies like Google Wallet for innovative rewards, we aim to further bridge the gap between digital engagement and real-world environmental action. "Plastic Warrior" is poised for growth, ready to inspire a new generation of environmental guardians.
