Inspiration
Whether you’re an individual trying to save for a goal or a business managing multiple financial priorities, planning and consistency remain major challenges. Many people and companies rely on manual budgeting or spreadsheets that fail to provide real-time insights or automation.
We were inspired to build PlanWise — a unified platform that helps both individuals and organizations manage money intelligently, plan ahead, and achieve financial goals with discipline and clarity. Our mission is to simplify financial management for everyone, from a student saving for tuition to a startup planning its next expansion.
What it does
PlanWise is a comprehensive finance management and goal-planning system built for both individuals and businesses. It helps users:
Set and track goals — from personal purchases to business investment milestones.
Automate savings and payments using linked accounts, cards, or mobile money.
Analyze income and expenses through intelligent dashboards and reports.
Collaborate as teams — departments or families can create shared financial goals.
Receive smart insights and reminders for upcoming obligations or saving milestones.
Manage cashflow efficiently to avoid financial stress and overspending.
PlanWise acts as your digital financial partner — giving you control, automation, and peace of mind.
How we built it
We engineered PlanWise using a secure, scalable stack:
Frontend: Built with React for an intuitive, responsive interface accessible on all devices.
Backend: Developed with Django & Django REST Framework for strong data integrity and robust APIs.
Database: PostgreSQL for reliable storage and analytics.
Automation Engine: Celery + Redis manage scheduled savings, reminders, and goal forecasts.
Payments Integration: Flutterwave API enables both personal and business account transactions across multiple channels.
UI/UX Design: Crafted with a modern light-purple palette and clean visuals to appeal to both professional and individual users.
Deployment: Dockerized and cloud-hosted for high availability, scalability, and security.

Ensuring secure and compliant payment integrations for multi-user financial data.
Designing a goal management system that scales from a single user to entire teams or companies.
Balancing powerful analytics with a simple, guided user experience.
Handling multi-currency and multi-account management efficiently.

Integrated real-world payment systems for deposits, withdrawals, and automated savings.
Developed a forecasting system that estimates when goals will be achieved based on user activity.
Designed a clean, professional UI suitable for entrepreneurs, corporate teams, and everyday users.
Built a modular, extensible backend ready for advanced analytics, AI insights, and multi-organization structures.
What we learned
Individuals and businesses share similar financial pain points — planning, tracking, and discipline.
Simplicity and trust are the keys to adoption — users prefer clear, actionable insights over complex data.
Payment integrations require strong understanding of compliance, KYC, and transaction security.
Collaboration and communication between developers, designers, and finance experts is vital to build something that’s both secure and usable.
Financial empowerment isn’t just personal — it scales to teams and organizations when tools are transparent and data-driven.
