Inspiration

I was inspired as a naturalist to create a tool that professional biologists and students could use to learn about plants and gather information.

What it does

Synthesizes data to make it easier for biologists to do their job, runs a prioritization algorithm to determine which samples biologists should collect in order to find the most biodiverse samples.

How we built it

I used a python script and streamlit to call various database APIs and synthesize them into one easy to use webapp.

Challenges we ran into

Image scraping: surprisingly none of the databases that catalogue images of botany wanted those to be used for projects like this, so I was forced to go elsewhere for my images. I ended up using a google search function.

What's next for Plants on the Run

UI/UX upgrades, interactive maps, games to raise its educational value.
