Inspiration
We personally are pretty bad at managing financial issues, so we developed this game to educate ourselves and to help those like us to get better in money management.
What it does
In this game, you are accepting a challenge from the kind and generous BIG GRANDPA. Your goal is to earn 500 from buying and selling plants within 8 rounds. Since plants all love a good amount of sun and fresh air, they are happier on a higher level and angrier on a lower level. Therefore, you need to strategically place and move your plants on the shelf to keep them from exploding with anger.
How we built it
We watched a Pygame tutorial and with our former experience in object-oriented programming, we are able to build this game.
Challenges we ran into
Pygame package was new to both of us, and we had to familiarize ourselves with the syntax first. Game design was also hard. It took a lot more planning than we expected at first, but we put in a lot more work also, so we ended up to be fine.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We think that the game rules are pretty innovative. It has a lot of elements from both video games and board games, which makes it more fun.
What we learned
We learned to use Pygame. It's also a valuable experience to learn to use a new library that we have not encountered before.
What's next for Plants of Wrath
Obviously, there's a lot of room for improvement. We wanted to add many other elements to make the game more challenging, but we would need more time to implement them. We also want to use our own art work for the game display in the future.
