Inspiration
As COVID cases rise and people are spending the most time they've ever had in their lives at home, my teammates and I noticed plant sales have been soaring. With such a significant increase in plant sales, there also have been more and more neglected house/garden plants due to lack of watering. We thought it would be a great idea to have a plant identifier which will identify how often your plant needs to be watered and based on geolocation, if it already received its daily water intake through rain, it will skip the daily reminder to water your plant(s).
What it does
This iOS app is able to identify up to 6 different types of plants using a camera feature. Just as easy as aiming your camera at the plant and it will swiftly be able to tell you which plant it is. Using geolocation services, it will remind you if you should skip watering if's a rainy day. In this app, you will be greeted with a Good Morning/Evening and will have access to all your plants with an individual watering schedule for each of plants! Log-in and create an account features are also available for avid or first-time users.
How we built it
For back and frontend, we used swift.
Challenges we ran into
Combining frontend and backend together and overall fluidity of app
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Front end accomplishments are using swift (unfamiliar territory). This is our first hackathon for my team members and I!
What we learned
Collaboration within teammates, learning things we've never tried before.
What's next for Planti
Fully functioning iOS app with implementation of features to best optimize living conditions for your plant (optimal temperature of plant using geolocation, soil/fertilization properties). We hope through this app, we encourage the status quo to invest in a plant (can be a plant you picked from the park) as its found to encourage mental health wellness.
