Planter

Inspiration

Our inspiration was finding the carbon footprint from a person, but then we realized that a positive influence was more effective. We chose to change our app to calculate the carbon offset with planting plants.

What it does

A person would be able to upload an image, and then calculate a carbon score with multiple API's for species classification and location to carbon emission data. We then calculated a score based on these aspects, and with multiple people, create competition to help plant.

How we built it

We used Flutter to first upload an image. We then also extracted the location data, which put into an API gave us the average carbon emission in that area. After that, we were able to display that score with our own scale.

Challenges we ran into

We first used two hours to decide on an idea, as that is the most important step. After that, finding complete data was a challenge, as some took a long time to deliver and others were not inclusive of all plants. Flutter itself was challenging as it was unfamiliar, and converting python code we used to create

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Extracting the location and using the API to display the carbon score was very challenging, and rewarding once we completed it.

What we learned

We learned that preparation was important, as if we started with an idea and complete data we would have been able to finish all of our goals.

What's next for Planter

It will be able to use species to find its effectiveness at combatting climate change and other factors that vary the carbon score.
