Inspiration

Across India and globally, thousands of nursery owners, organic farmers, and plant sellers operate in silos—offline, unorganized, and often disconnected from the growing demand for sustainable, plant-based lifestyles.

Plantbazaar was born to bridge this gap.

We set out to build a modern, tech-enabled green ecosystem that connects trusted plant vendors with urban consumers, businesses, and institutions looking for reliable access to healthy plants, organic products, and nature-based experiences.

What it does

Plantbazaar is a full-stack supply chain and ecommerce platform that:

• Enables users to browse and purchase plants, seeds, décor kits, and gifts
• Empowers nurseries and vendors to list inventory and fulfill orders
• Supports packaging and delivery coordination with optional vendor pickup
• Provides a wishlist feature (powered by Convex) for anonymous or logged-in users
• Prepares for future expansion into organic produce, farm partnerships, and subscriptions

How we built it

The MVP is built using:

• Next.js 13 App Router with TailwindCSS for frontend
• Convex as our backend database and function layer
• Custom logic for wishlist handling, rate limiting, session management
• Real-time plant listing updates and vendor onboarding support

This architecture ensures simplicity, flexibility, and real-time sync without needing traditional backend systems like Supabase or Firebase.

Challenges we ran into

• Designing a supply chain-first system for an unorganized sector
• Building trust and awareness among small offline nurseries
• Handling wishlist data anonymously but securely
• Managing multiple user roles with limited resources
• Trademark, documentation, and onboarding delays

Accomplishments we're proud of

• Fully functional wishlist with Convex backend
• Vendor registration form and UI integration
• Market testing plan via Phase 0 (pre-launch outreach)
• Clear product roadmap from Phase 0 to Phase 4
• Onboarding interest from real nurseries in Kolkata

What we learned

• Early validation is more valuable than complex features
• Convex is an ideal backend for startup-stage real-time applications
• Offline partnerships are key to operational success in India
• A strong brand and packaging strategy builds long-term value

What's next for Plantbazaar

• Finalize nursery deals and start real order collection manually
• Launch basic packaging kits and delivery workflows
• Apply for trademark registration and business registration
• Expand gifting bundles and décor categories
• Begin early-stage outreach to organic produce vendors and farmers
• Plan for unified multi-role system for customers, vendors, and delivery
