With a high percentage of houseplants taken in, there is also a high risk that houseplants will face neglect due to a combination of forgetfulness and even constantly staring at screens. We came to an understanding that houseplants also need love and care like any other plant. Due to the unprecedented rate of plant death, we have built PlantAlive to ensure you no longer have to worry about the health of your plant!

As a group with zero prior experience in electrical engineering, we headed in purely with ambitions to learn something new. Starting with little to no knowledge, our team managed to learn how to wire components together, write code connecting software and hardware, design and 3D print parts, and solder stuff. We decided we wanted our idea to be sustainable after hearing the project theme - reclaiming technology by turning it into a tool to help reconnect with the world around us.

Throughout the hackathon, we participated in the CISSA workshops, TCS training workshops, and took advantage of our groups diverse skills to split the work. We tested and coded each component individually and slowly figured out how to connect them together, then after understanding how the code and wiring works, we cleaned up the code, removed the breadboard, and condensed our project. From there, we built and 3D modelled components and used recycled materials to put our project in, as sustainability is one of our biggest values.

As a group with zero experience in electrical engineering, some who are completely new to hackathons, and some who are new to coding, learning everything in our own time and understanding the way hardware works was our most challenging but most rewarding experience.
