Inspiration

We are inspired to make this project because global warming is a really pounding issue that nobody can neglect. While many major cities around the world are facing the urban heat island effect, we want to reduce the effects by encouraging people to plant more trees or flowers on their rooftop, balcony, or even in their yard.

What it does

This app has a couple of major functions. First, it serves as a platform for us to deliver seeds for users if they needed. Second, we will allow users to add the plant that they planted in reality on our map. Our map interface would allow users to compare their contribution to the environment with regional information by showing total numbers of plants in the region. Then, we will calculate the impact that the plant brings to the world and calculate the rewarding score(to be implemented).

How we built it

We use React web app using Firebase for user log in and Google Map API. Frontend Design utilizes antdesign libraries.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we faced is communicating with our teammates when we are all living far from each other.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Use APIs, Cool UI design, and lots of brainstorming!!

What we learned

we learned that the urban heat island effects is a very pressing issue in many U.S. cities including Chicago, Washington D.C, and etc. We discovered that many U.S. cities rooftops are obeslete. Therefore, we could use rooftops or available balconies to plant more green trees that help reduce CO2

What's next for Plant vs. CO2

We hope to conduct in-depth research in how many people we can penetrate as well as the available rooftop for a neighborhood to enact this project. Moreover, we will also need initial funding to provide users with free seed (as free trials) to let us test our hypothesis if people are needed.
