Inspiration

I have always enjoyed sitting in green spaces like parks and appreciating the effort it took other people some already gone to make the environment cleaner and healthier for all of us. I, in turn, make it a point to plant and take care of trees until they mature to contribute to future generations in my way.

What it does

my app helps with the whole growth process of plants in that you give it the plant type and soil type and in turn, it gives you step-by-step details on how to take care of your plants by choosing the correct fertiliser, weather & pest control how to plant and prune etc.. also added an extra feature using was serverless products like event bridge, lambda & SNS that send out notifications reminding you to water mulch, adding compost and other interventions that can ensure increased survival rates.

How we built it

I built the app with Party Rock and after that, I decided to build it practically on the console using Event Bridge which sends scheduled messages at certain times of the day triggering a lambda function which sends a notification to SNS to notify a user via email.

Challenges we ran into

getting the app to function the way I wanted initially was a hustle.I wanted the app to be a one-stop shop but it took a few tweaks here and there to get the best product out there.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The app works as expected and it also has a chat feature that helps in getting additional information and clarification that might not have been captured in the previous answer. I also rely on the reminder app and its notifications to remind me to take care of my tree seedings

What we learned

I learnt how to use Gen AI as a guide to solve everyday tasks which is very helpful.in prior times I would have to sift through numerous documents, which would have taken a lot of time for this task. I also learned that I can use this app to help others also to nurture their environments

What's next for plant irrigation reminder

more features are in the pipeline like SMS notifications which help those who don't have smartphones and other added features like integration with IoT devices.
