Plant - agotchi

Let's start with one of the most important facts - we cannot eat, drink or breathe without plants around. It is very easy to forget about gardening, plant care and the environment when we are surrounded by the industrial and technologically advanced city of Toronto. But plant care has many amazing HEALTHY benefits that impact our everyday lives and the world around us.

Happiness - Taking care of someone (a plant!) gives us positive feelings of self-sufficiency and responsibility.

Education - Plant care always teaches us something! And there are no tuition fees, no prereqs, no grades! We find ourselves learning about the ideal environments for our different house plants, and optimizing the layout.

Community - The presence of the natural environment improves human interactions and ultimately, bring us together. Studies in large cities have shown that crime rates decrease as the number of green spaces increase!

Environment - Recognize the importance of caring for the environment, one plant at a time!

Students, children, adults, seniors - everyone can enjoy and use Plant - agotchi as their guide to healthy, and happy plants!

Plant - agotchi is overflowing with information! He can sense the light, moisture in the soil, humidity and temperature. It will provide you status updates on these stats so you can choose the most optimal location for your plant to thrive! In addition, you can tell Plant - agotchi to water your plants for you. And, he will confirm that your plant has been watered and alert you when he has run out of water.

By using an algorithm, calculated by Gabriel, Plant-agotchi is able to pour out the required amount of water each time, to reduce the number of instances the user has to refill it.

At the moment, Plant - agotchi has a very rough build. He has important sensors sticking out all over the place to provide his owner with the best stats he can!

Plant - agotchi has not always been this perfect and we are still planning on adding more improvements!

Some challenges included:

• Malfunctioning hardware
• Bluetooth connections
• Space available in Arduino

We are planning on creating an APP. This way, users can link all of their Plant-agotchis together so they can receive updates on all their plants and water them long distance at one place.

We also want the user to be able to input information about their specific plant so they can receive feedback on the plants location (if it is optimal).

Create different sized robots so that they can reach and water different sizes of plants. Also, different sized buckets to carry different amounts of water.

We learnt a lot about hardware, software and mechanical engineering.
