Inspiration

As the sole developer working on PlanSmart, I sought inspiration from my younger brother and sister, who are currently in high school. I wanted to address a common and significant problem faced by students of all ages: the challenge of finding good study materials. Amongst the various obstacles, the most time-consuming task is researching and determining the best courses to take for a particular field of study. It was this issue that motivated me to create PlanSmart.

What it does

PlanSmart is an innovative solution that takes a syllabus as input and outputs the best videos available on popular platforms like YouTube, Coursera, and more. Leveraging sentiment analysis, PlanSmart intelligently evaluates the content and recommends the most suitable videos for each topic in the syllabus. Additionally, the platform incorporates a coin-based reward system designed to incentivize students to complete their syllabus. By completing the syllabus, students earn coins that can be used to access additional features or rewards within the PlanSmart ecosystem.

How we built it

PlanSmart combines various technologies and techniques to provide a comprehensive solution. It utilizes web scraping to gather data from different platforms, sentiment analysis to assess the quality of videos, and a ranking and recommendation algorithm to assign scores for optimal recommendations. The user interface is developed using Streamlit, ensuring a user-friendly and intuitive experience. Additionally, PlanSmart generates a study plan based on the recommended videos, providing students with a structured learning path. The coin-based reward system encourages students to stay motivated and engaged throughout their studies.

Challenges we ran into

I encountered challenges during the development process with time. Additionally, integrating the Google Client API with Streamlit required troubleshooting and careful attention to ensure smooth functionality.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Completing the entire project is an accomplishment I take pride in. Overcoming challenges along the way and delivering a functional and impactful solution has been a rewarding experience.

What we learned

Developing PlanSmart provided valuable learning experiences. The project involved working with the Google Client API, implementing web scraping techniques, conducting sentiment analysis, and more. Additionally, the integration of authentication services like Auth0 enhanced the understanding of user security and privacy considerations.

What's next for PlanSmart

PlanSmart's future includes expanding its reach and capabilities. This involves adding support for additional websites and platforms, such as Udemy and Skillshare, to provide a wider range of study materials. Furthermore, PlanSmart aims to introduce new input formats, such as image-to-OCR functionality, to enable greater flexibility and convenience for users. The goal is to continuously enhance PlanSmart, ensuring that students have access to the best resources and a rewarding learning experience.
