Dental insurance often explains the rules without explaining the decision. People still have to figure out what a procedure will cost, how much their plan will pay, and whether timing care differently could reduce their share.
We built PlanPilot to make that process easier. A user can upload a benefits summary or enter plan details manually, describe planned care, and receive a clear estimate showing the billed amount, allowed amount, deductible, coverage, insurer payment, patient responsibility, and remaining annual benefit.
The calculation engine is deterministic. Gemini helps extract fields from documents, explain insurance language, and prepare structured inputs, but it never decides the dollar amounts. PlanPilot also compares dentist-approved treatment dates to identify lower-cost schedules without overriding clinical judgment.
We learned that transparency matters as much as automation. Every estimate needs to show where its numbers came from and what assumptions were used. The biggest challenges were handling complex insurance rules, keeping AI separate from financial calculations, and designing a workflow that feels simple for someone unfamiliar with dental insurance.
