Inspiration
We wanted to build a platform to help reduce burnout for students and improve their productivity. A large proportion are burdened by coursework and are unable to effectively manage their time, which affects their productivity and hence, mental health. This has been aggravated by the coronavirus pandemic, which further increased the pressure to outperform on students as everything moved to the online world.
What it does
PlanMate is a simple but effective app that allows you to optimise your productivity. You can easily break down assignments into smaller tasks with a single click using our customisable templates. PlanMate automatically manages and tracks your workflow and progress. Your work mate rewards you with points and helps you stay on top of your productivity-game.
How we built it
We first dedicated ourselves to extensive research and brainstorming to devise our MVP and design the user journey. We used Figma to build the UI for the app. We also used Adobe and Google Suite to create our pitch.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge while building an app that provides solutions to student productivity issues was to curate a comprehensive and effective method to properly track students' work and progress. We also brainstormed on adding features, which could prevent student from finding loopholes with the motive of getting rewards.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
With a diverse team with different backgrounds and educational qualifications, we are proud to have created an app to help students all around the world. We challenged ourselves to think about all the aspects of the user journey and how to mitigate risks. The whole process was very rewarding and fun at the same time.
What we learned
We learned how to work in diverse teams. We also learned how to develop a project in such a short span of time, identifying and understanding problems that need to be addressed.
What's next for PlanMate
In the future, we plan to expand our app to more universities, high schools, and corporate offices. We aim to continually improve and upgrade our app through the use of AR learning, adding more features as we go ahead.
