Inspiration
PlanIT Control was inspired by the need to make construction and industrial job sites safer. By collecting environmental data and bringing it into a centralized system, we created a website that helps teams identify, monitor, and report potential hazards at their work sites.
What it does
PlanIT Control combines environmental data from job sites into a unified risk picture. Its features include instant hazard alerts, crowdsourced reporting that allows workers to report hazards in real time, and machine learning that predicts potential risk levels based on environmental and wildlife data. We also integrated an AI-powered assistant into the website to help users address safety-related questions and better understand potential risks at their work sites.
How we built it
We built the frontend using React and the backend using Flask to create a RESTful API. The frontend features a centralized dashboard that allows users to view environmental conditions and potential hazards. It also allows workers to view their current work site and submit hazard reports. The backend receives and processes environmental data and user-submitted reports, validates and organizes incoming information, and makes the processed data available to the frontend.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges we encountered included training the machine-learning model, connecting the frontend to the backend, integrating data from external APIs, and designing an interface that was easy for new users to navigate.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of bringing job-site environmental information into an accessible platform for workers. By combining real-time alerts, crowdsourced reporting, and predictive analytics, PlanIT Control promotes a more proactive approach to safety management, helping workers and supervisors recognize potential risks earlier.
What we learned
We learned that effective job-site safety requires more than collecting data; it requires turning information into actionable insights. By combining human observations with environmental monitoring and predictive analytics, we can develop a more complete understanding of potential hazards and support better-informed safety decisions.
What's next for PlanIT Control
Our next steps are to refine the platform's data integration capabilities and improve the accuracy of its risk forecasts. We also aim to test PlanIT Control in realistic job-site scenarios, evaluate its alert accuracy and usability, and expand its ability to anticipate hazards before they occur.
