Inspiration

The inspiration for Study Plan Generator comes from recognizing the challenges students face in studying effectively, especially with busy schedules and the need for structured, actionable study plans. Many traditional study methods, such as reading, skimming, and highlighting notes, are often ineffective and a waste of valuable time. Study Plan Generator aims to provide a solution by offering a more explicit study plan with specific objectives for each topic and proven, actionable study items.

What it does

Study Plan Generator helps students from various educational and professional backgrounds, including high school, college, the trades, and other professional environments, to study for exams and certifications. It generates a detailed study plan that outlines what objectives to study for each topic and suggests actionable study items that are known to be effective. By using Study Plan Generator, students can save time and mental effort in creating an effective study plan tailored to their needs and schedule.

How we built it

Study Plan Generator is built using Googles Gemini API, specifically the 1.0 pro version. As of this time, pre-filled topics and objectives are able to be selected, though you can also add your own class and topics you wish to have a plan generated for

Challenges we ran into

During the development of Study Plan Generator, we faced several challenges, including building an effective prompt that would return legitimate study actions that were related to the objectives for each topic. A lot of tweaking done here consisted of shorter sentences, repeating important actions that were critical to the result and doing one-shot interference.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a tool that can significantly benefit students by providing them with a more effective way to study. Study Plan Generator has the potential to help students improve their study habits, save time, and achieve better results in their exams and certifications.

What we learned

Prompting is truly a skill! Keeping prompts shorter and more concise is critical to yielding the results you expect that are as specific as you would like. Instead of sending one large prompt in, several smaller prompts for each section were identified and submitted to the Gemini API.

What's next for StudyPlanGenerator

In the future, we plan to add the ability to pick and choose what study actions a student wants to add to their calendar to fit in their busy schedule. We also plan on adding an automated feature that, given hours/days per week of study time, an automatic study schedule will generate. In addition, other integrations, especially within the Google ecosystem like Keep, Calendar and Drive will provide a well-rounded and seamless integration allowing for students to focus on studying, not planning. We are committed to continuously improving Study Plan Generator to better serve the needs of students worldwide.
