Inspiration
The driving force behind PlanetPass was to enlighten individuals about climate change through an engaging game-like interface. By encouraging users to compete for points through eco-friendly travel choices, we aimed to not only educate but also incentivize sustainable living. The points earned can then be redeemed for offers and discounts at local businesses, fostering local economic growth and community development.
What it does
PlanetPass is an AI-enhanced app designed to motivate eco-conscious travel. It rewards users with loyalty points for opting for sustainable transportation options. These points can be exchanged for coupons at nearby local stores, promoting local commerce. The app also features:
- Social media integration to encourage community engagement around environmental responsibility.
- Educational blogs to enhance climate change and sustainability awareness.
- A leaderboard to track and compare points with contacts, adding a competitive and fun element to sustainable travel.
How we built it
The app was developed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the front end, with design prototypes created in Figma. We integrated the Google Directions API to suggest travel routes and modes of transport.
Challenges we ran into
A major challenge was ensuring the validation and credibility of users' travel claims. We addressed this by requiring users to take a picture with their mode of transport, which our image recognition algorithm analyzes to verify the claimed mode of transport.
Accomplishments we're proud of
We overcame the challenge of validating travel claims, integrating a blog for climate education, and using AI to suggest eco-friendlier travel options. We're also proud of our initiative to support local businesses by connecting them with users through our platform.
What we learned
We gained skills in using Figma for design prototyping, developed a holistic approach to product ideation, and learned to pitch our product effectively. We also explored using Canva for engaging presentations.
What's next for PlanetPass
Our future plans include:
- Implementing AI-powered gamification features to reward sustainable travel choices.
- Integrating a virtual carbon footprint calculator to help users track their environmental impact.
- Using blockchain technology to decentralize the reward distribution process, allowing for a more direct and transparent reward system for users' eco-friendly actions.
