Inspiration 🎨🖌️
We mainly used our own imagination to come up with the story, characters and setting, but we were inspired by video game's pixel art style. Also, some enemy attack patterns were also inspired by some in games Undertale and Deltarune.
What it does ⁉️
Planet: Reclaim is a fast paced shooting (and dodging) game that has short snappy cutscenes. Through a pixel art style, the player has to try and salvage their world from a dark liquid. By fighting different bosses, the player will achieve the end goal after numerous tiring battles.
How we built it 👾
Originally, we wanted to create the game in Scratch, with mods to enable collaboration. However, the mod's servers were down which made us transfer to Cocrea; a platform that allows collaboration and included many additional features. Planet: Reform is then made through visual block-based coding, very similarly to scratch. For the visuals, our artists used pixquare to create unique and original pixel artworks.
Challenges we ran into ‼️
During the process, we faced five main challenges: The first one was, as always, the coding. A memorable example is when the second boss randomly morphs into the third boss. That created loads of unwanted headaches! The second challenge was time management. We all procrastinated on weekends and crammed the work in school time instead; something that I'm sure many do. With a tight time line and due date close, we still ensured that the quality remains top notch. The third challenge was the amount of arguing and debate involved in plot and artwork. Through our collaboration and efficient communication, it was quickly solved! Fourth is the transfer from Cocrea to Scratch. Cocrea has a bigger stage than scratch which allows for good photos and gameplay, however, we wanted the final project to be in scratch because of its easy sharing feature and popularity. Because of this, we had to adjust the GUI sprite costumes a lot, make it a lot smaller and change enemy attacks. The fifth and final challenge was that our team had a wide range of gaming skills and it took a lot of time adjusting to the difficulty. Even now, the game might still be too hard for some people, or too easy for some. We apologize if it is not balanced for you, however the difficulty lays on a thin thread.
Accomplishments that we're proud of 🏅🏆
We successfully finished an enjoyable game with great visuals and a complete story line through the course of several days. That alone is already a big achievement! Regardless of the tight deadline, we also made two different videos as well! We're all proud of getting this far!
What we learnt 📝
We definitely learned to collaborate better which is other as a team after our debates. Additionally, we learned to do better time management and learned how to problem solve better when coding!
What's next for Planet: Reclaim 🌱💚
Now that our project is coming to a close, we slowly finalize our main details. However, you can still expect slight changes in art, difficulty adjustments, cutscene art and (spoiler alert!) new bosses!

Final note:
We, Liphao, Siku, Kati and Alex, take a final bow from this project. It has been a long and tedious process, one that we poured our hearts and souls into—and we have a beautiful game as a reward.
Thank you for being a part of this journey—one that is now coming to a close. 💗💗💗
Logging off for the last time,
Sincerely,
The Planet: Reform team 🌱💚
